The three Ostend Kiwanis clubs North Sea, Ensor and Mercator are donating 200 Kiwanis dolls to the new emergency room for children, “children’s land”
On January 30 , the three Ostend Kiwanis clubs Noordzee, Ensor and Mercator donated 200 Kiwanis dolls to the emergency room of AZ Ostend. The intention is to set up a new emergency unit for the youngest among us by the end of 2025. This “Kinderland” will be beautifully decorated and aims to overcome fear in the little ones. By setting up smaller nursing units, “Children’s Land” will be completely separate from the normal emergency unit. Contact between adult and pediatric emergency admissions will be completely separated.
The Kiwanis Pop is a white doll about 30 centimeters tall, made of white cotton and filled with CE-approved anti-allergic polyester. It is used in pediatric wards by doctors, nurses and other health care providers to explain to children what will happen to them and what procedure they will have to undergo. In addition, the doll is a toy and comforting hug for the young patient. The boy or girl undergoing treatment or admitted to the hospital can color the doll himself, dress it, etc and afterwards, of course, take it home.
And they are also eagerly used : Kiwanis already delivered 200 dolls to AZ Ostend in 2024. In this way, we are living up to our vocation of being at the service of children, “all over the world,” emphasizes Tom Vanpoucke, Chairman Social Commission of Kiwanis North Sea Ostend.
